CRESTWOOD, Ill., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Police in the Chicago suburbs said they arrested a man accused of stealing a jar from a convenience store containing donations for a woman with cancer.

Investigators said Joseph Campione, 45, of Palos Hills, turned himself in Thursday morning after police were able to identify him from surveillance video from the Shop Mart in Crestwood, where he allegedly took a jug of donations for a 27-year-old Alsip woman battling stage 3 colon cancer, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

"The first thing you have to do is be angry when you see somebody do that," said the woman, Kelly Stawicki. "But like I said, I have a heart, you know. I feel bad he's got to spend Christmas in jail."

Stawicki said the amount of money in the jug when it was taken is unknown, but it held about $125 when it was emptied on previous occasions.

Campione was charged with felony theft and ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
