GRASSY BUTTE, N.D., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- A North Dakota rancher said he shot and killed a mountain lion on his front porch after arriving home to find the animal had killed four of his cats.
Ed Tarnavsky of Grassy Butte said he arrived home shortly after sundown Wednesday and discovered four of his cats had been killed and a mountain lion was on his porch, The Bismarck Tribune reported Friday.
Tarnavsky said he retrieved his .22 pistol and shot the animal.
Robert Timian, chief game warden for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, said mountain lions are known to live in the area and have been killed near occupied buildings. He said Tarnavsky was within his rights to kill the lion.
