Man arrested for shoplifting on birthday

SALISBURY, N.C., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Police in North Carolina said a man celebrated his 45th birthday by stuffing nearly $300 worth of food down his pants at a grocery store.

Investigators said Ronald Broadway, 45, of Salisbury, was arrested Thursday in the parking lot of his local Food Lion store after an employee spotted him shoving the food, including steaks, baby back ribs, smoked turkey and shrimp, into his pants, WBTV, Charlotte, N.C., reported Tuesday.

Police said Broadway had sweatpants on under his jeans and had duct taped them at the ankles to keep the food from falling out.

Broadway was charged with shoplifting and jailed in lieu of $3,000 bond.
