DEELEN, Netherlands, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Thieves stole a U.S. F104 Starfighter from a Dutch museum during the weekend, museum officials said Monday.

The officials at the Deelen air base museum said the non-working model would have been difficult for thieves to move undetected Saturday night and they are hoping the incident turns out to be a New Year's prank, Nul.nl reported Monday.

The officials said the thieves left a note mysteriously stating, "Fly out there. Until next year!"
