GUIYANG, China, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A Chinese couple who celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary said they have rarely exchanged angry words.

Yang Shengzhong, 109, and Jin Jifen, 106, of Guiyang, Guizhou province, who were recognized by the Gerontological Society of China as the country's oldest living couple, said they mostly communicate via gestures and eye contact these days due to their failing hearing, but even when they were young they rarely argued, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported Friday.

"I was married to Yang at 16, and he has been nice to me, so I said to myself, 'This was the man I will spend my whole life with,'" Jin said.

The couple said their longevity can be attributed to working on their farm every day, having a happy family and having "inner peace and a grateful heart."
