LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A man trying to watch the Geminid meteor shower drove his Mustang off a cliff in the Angeles National Forest in California, officials said Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Times said the man plunged 100 feet over a hill Tuesday night. The California Highway Patrol said a helicopter search team rescued the man, who was able to walk away with minor injuries.

The best time for viewing the Geminid meteor shower, which originated in the constellation Gemini, was between 10 p.m. Tuesday and sunrise Wednesday, the newspaper said.
