Firefighters make some bizarre rescues

LONDON, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- London firefighters said they have responded to emergency calls for a man stuck in a child's toy car and a woman with her hand stuck in a vending machine.

The London Fire Brigade said in addition to those to calls, its most unusual calls also included a man with his head caught in a cat door, a man whose genitals were stuck in a chastity belt and children stuck on playground equipment, The Sun reported Friday.

"You would not believe some of the incidents we are called to deal with -- people manage to get themselves trapped in some very weird and wonderful places," said Dave Brown, the fire service's assistant commissioner for operations and mobilizing.

"But there is a serious side to this -- these incidents are time --consuming, costly and take up the precious time of our crews who are then unavailable to attend other, potentially life-threatening, emergencies," Brown said.

"We ask the public to take greater care to avoid getting themselves into these often ridiculous situations and to think carefully before dialing 999 and calling us out if there is not an emergency."
