PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Animal rescuers in California said they are trying to find a home for a 2-month-old bird believed to be a Transylvanian naked neck chicken.

The Peninsula Humane Society & Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the bird was picked up Oct. 7 when a witness in Palo Alto reported seeing what appeared to be an injured quail, the Palo Alto Daily News reported Tuesday.

Agency spokesman Scott Delucchi said the animal is believed to be a Transylvanian naked neck chicken, which is also known as a "turken" due to its resemblance to both a turkey and a chicken.

"It's our best guess," Delucchi said. "If it is, it's the only one we've had in 60 years."

The spokesman said rescuers have not determined whether the bird, nicknamed Timmy, is male or female.

"So far, all this little guy or girl is doing is chirping," Delucchi said.

Delucchi said the bird is available for adoption for a $10 fee.
