PROVO, Utah, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Police in Utah said they tracked down and arrested a burglary suspect after he allegedly left his dog behind at the scene of the crime.

Provo police said a homeowner noticed the interior lights of his car were on around 5:10 a.m. Wednesday and he found the 22-year-old suspect walking with his dog and carrying some of his property about a block away from his home, KSTU-TV, Salt Lake City, reported Thursday.

The homeowner told the suspect he had called police and the suspect allegedly threatened him, claiming to have a gun, investigators said.

The suspect fled but left his dog, which bore tags leading police to the man's residence.

Police said the man, who has not yet been charged, will likely face counts of vehicle burglary and weapons violations.
