BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A New York couple have renewed their vows after 12 years of marriage -- two days after the groom's 100th birthday, friends said.

About 75 people attended the ceremony Saturday for Paul and Kay Rich at the Country Club of Buffalo, after which the couple attended the University of Buffalo football game where Paul was honored as the oldest former UB player, The Buffalo News reported.

The couple met in 1998 after both had been widowed. They married the following year when Paul was 87 and Kay was in her early 60s.

Paul Rich didn't want any big 100th birthday celebration, Kay said, so she suggested the renewal ceremony instead.

At the ceremony Paul was honored as both the oldest Eagle Scout in Erie County and the oldest surviving former UB player.

He played guard for UB from 1930 to 1932.

"I feel like I live with my mature Eagle Scout, football player, boyfriend and world traveler," his wife said after the ceremony. "At night, I feel like I'm with my high school boyfriend."
