PARKLAND, Fla., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- A Florida man celebrated his 104th birthday by donating a $100,000 ambulance to emergency responders in Israel.

Bernie Nenner of Parkland, who said he keeps sharp by walking back and forth to the community library, which he runs on a volunteer basis, said the ambulance was dedicated in a Sunday ceremony and is now being shipped to Israel by American Friends of Magen David Adom, The Miami Herald reported Monday.

"You read the papers about what is going on in that country and how they need the ambulances," Nenner said. "I thought it was the best way to spend my money."

Nenner said he has been in near-perfect health since a high cholesterol scare a few years ago inspired him to change his diet.

"To this day, I watch myself. I weigh the same as I did when I was 20 years old," the 130-pound man said.

Nenner said until recently, he was the sole caretaker for his wife, Frances, 95.

"I am the oldest caretaker in America," Nenner said.
