VERO BEACH, Fla., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A 29-year-old Florida man upset over an automated teller machine fee was arrested after he punched an ATM and broke its screen, police said.

Joel Gaudreault of Vero Beach was charged with criminal mischief under $1,000 after police said he damaged the cash-dispensing machine at a Hess station on U.S. 1 in Vero Beach last Friday, TCPalm.com reported.

"Due to being charged too much by the machine in fees, he was upset with the machine and struck it," an Indian River County Sheriff's Office affidavit states.

The affidavit did not give the amount of the fee.

A clerk at the gas station, who said Gaudreault started to yell and hit the ATM, told a sheriff's deputy he wanted to press charges.

"Gaudreault reported he intentionally hit/damaged the machine out of frustration with it," the affidavit said.

He was taken to the Indian River County jail.
