WINCHESTER, England, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Police in Britain said a motorist caught during a crackdown on distracted drivers was spotted using his laptop and drinking coffee behind the wheel.

Hampshire police said 84 vehicles were stopped during the five-day crackdown last week on the M27 and M3 roadways, and among them was a man spotted using his laptop computer and drinking coffee at the same time while driving, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Police said other offenses included a man using a knife to eat a pear and a motorist seen jotting down the answers to a radio quiz show. They said 39 motorists were stopped for talking on their phones.

Sgt. Paul Diamond said 55 percent of the motorists ticketed during the operation were driving commercial vehicles.
