GATINEAU, Quebec, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Police in Quebec said a supermarket pumpkin thief injured a man who attempted to thwart his crime.

Investigators said the thief, who was estimated to be about 19 years old, grabbed the pumpkin from the IGA supermarket in Gatineau about 10:30 p.m. Thursday and was confronted by a 57-year-old man, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

Police said the thief attacked the man, who was taken to Hull Hospital with head injuries.

Officers are searching for the suspect, who they said was accompanied by another man of the same approximate age.
