NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A cat missing at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York for the past two weeks has become an Internet celebrity, complete with Twitter account.

The feline, Jack, went missing from the belongings of Karen Pascoe while American Airlines staff were preparing for tropical storm Irene Aug. 25 and has not been spotted since, but he has gained a strong following online, WNYW-TV, New York, reported Thursday.

A Facebook page set in Jack's name had received more than 13,000 "likes" as of Thursday.

"Every time I see an update that doesn't say he's safe and sound, it brings a tear to my eye," Facebook user Julie Jules wrote on Jack's page.

A satirical Twitter account has also sprung up in Jack's name with 274 followers as of Thursday.

"Met up w/some cool cats @NYUlocal and crashed at their pad this week," read a Wednesday tweet posted to @jackthelostcat. "I've never had so much beer and pizza in my live(s)."

American Airlines said a pet investigator and a "detective dog" have been brought to the airport to help in the search for Jack.
