BURLINGTON, Vt., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Vermont ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's announced a flavor based on the classic "Schweddy Balls" sketch from "Saturday Night Live" is now available.
The Burlington company said the Schweddy Balls flavor will be available in stores for a limited time as a tribute to "SNL" writers, actors and crew ahead of the 37th season premiere Sept. 19.
The flavor is based on Schweddy Balls, a fictional snack created by Pete Schweddy, played by Alec Baldwin, and promoted on "Delicious Dish," the National Public Radio show hosted by Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer in the classic sketch.
"For a long time, I thought that 'Here Lies Pete Schweddy' would end up on my tombstone," Baldwin said. "Now, thanks to Ben & Jerry's, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won't go with me to the great beyond."
Gasteyer also welcomed the announcement.
"The Schweddy Balls sketch was a personal favorite from my 'SNL' run, so I am pleased as holiday punch that Ben and Jerry's has taken it upon themselves to share the Schweddy Family recipe with the world. As a person and a performer, I am a sucker for holiday balls. And I have no doubt this ice cream will cause many to scream 'Good Times,'" she said.
