BELLA COOLA, British Columbia, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Authorities in British Columbia say a 70-year-old sailor was left high and dry for two days when a wrong turn sent his boat to be buried in sand and logs.

The provincial Joint Rescue Coordination Center said the man, whose name was not released, was attempting to sail more than 60 miles from Bella Coola to Bella Bella, but took a wrong turn in the Dean Channel and mechanical difficulties left him helpless Thursday when winds took him ashore up an inlet near Kimsquit, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The rescue center said the boat was buried in sand and logs as a result of wind and the tides. The man was unable to radio for help because he could not get a signal, the rescuers said.

The center said the man was found in good condition Saturday and taken to a Bella Coola hospital.
