BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A 105-pound Virginia woman won her fifth consecutive National Buffalo Wing Eating Contest, out-eating competitors, including top-ranked Joey Chestnut.
Sonya Thomas took the top prize and broke her own record by consuming 183 wings in 12 minutes Sunday at the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, N.Y., The Buffalo News reported Monday.
Thomas, who was awarded a $1,500 prize, beat fellow competitive eaters, including Chestnut, the No. 1 ranked Major League Eating champion who downed 174 wings.
"I am really proud of [beating Chestnut], because a lot of contests I compete with the men, but chicken wing is me; it's my thing," said Thomas, the fifth-ranked competitive eater worldwide.
