TOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Investigators in Ohio said small flags have been disappearing from a police memorial and officers have identified a suspect -- a squirrel.
Toledo Police Lts. James Brown and Mark King said they were standing near the Toledo Police Memorial Garden at the Civic Mall at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday when the squirrel ran off with a small flag and a single plastic flower, the Toledo Blade reported Thursday.
"He definitely knew what he was doing," Brown said. "This wasn't his first time."
Police said the squirrel is believed to be behind the disappearances of several small flags from the memorial and at least two of the flags have been spotted being used as components for the squirrel's nest in a nearby tree.
