Irene Katehis and Dimitra Malliaros moved into their Manhattan apartment July 25 and left July 31 because of two encounters with bats, the New York Daily News reported.
Malliaros said she was "scared, nervous and upset" when she first saw a bat July 27. The building manager caught the bat with a plastic bag and took it out of the apartment.
Another bat showed up July 31.
"Suddenly, a bat flew out from behind the curtain headed directly at Malliaros. Malliaros screamed, exited the bedroom and slammed the door, leaving her purse, money and cell phone behind," the court document says.
The $1 million lawsuit claims the women, now living in a relative's apartment, were duped into paying $36,000 up front for a full year's rent for a bat-infested apartment, the New York Post reported.
Katehis found two marks on her arm that the lawsuit contends "were caused by a bat while Katehis was asleep."
