Man proposes to woman through comic strip

SACRAMENTO, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- A Sacramento man said he proposed to his bride to be through her favorite comic strip because he "wanted to surprise her and make her laugh."

The couple, Cierra Howard and Kevin Timpson, have made it a ritual during the past six months to read comic strips with each other after dinner, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Howard's favorite comic, "F Minus" had a special message Monday.

"Cierra, will you marry me? -- Kevin," it read.

When Howard looked up from the paper, confused, Timpson was down on one knee, holding a ring.

"I wanted to do it in a way no one I knew had ever proposed," said Timpson. "I wanted to surprise her and make her laugh. She has a really good sense of humor."

Timpson contacted Tony Carrillo, the author of "F-Minus" for help with his proposal.

"No one had ever asked me to do something like this before," Carrillo said.

The strip features a man kneeling on a bench holding a ring out to a woman with a plane toting a banner overhead with the proposal on it.

"I loved how he proposed," Howard said Tuesday. "It's totally him. It's totally us."
