Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe GLASGOW, Scotland, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Researchers for the Scottish publishers of the Collins Dictionary say obsolete words, including "aerodrome" and "charabanc," will not appear in future editions. Ruth O'Donovan of the Glasgow-based Collins Language Division said "aerodome," a small landing area for aircraft, and "charabanc," a bus for sightseeing tours, are among the words being left out of latest edition of the dictionary because they have fallen out of use, The Daily Mirror reported Tuesday. Advertisement "We track words using a very large database of language," O'Donovan said. "We can track the frequency of existing words and when they get below a certain threshold we see them as being obsolete. Such words are in our largest dictionary but we would exclude them from our smaller dictionaries." Other words being left out of the smaller Collins Dictionary editions include "brabble," an argument about an unimportant matter; "kench," to laugh loudly; "supererogate," to do more than what is required; and "rundlet," a unit of measure approximately equal to 15 gallons.
