MANOR, Texas, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Claud and Sharon Bramblett of Manor, Texas, say they let their llamas come into their air conditioned home on hot summer days.

The Brambletts have 10 llamas with various hair lengths and about six or seven of the long-haired animals file into the house at about 1 p.m. each day to cool off, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported Monday.

Texas has had record heat this summer.

"There's no grass, no local hay to buy, no forage," said Claud Bramblett, 71. "It's too hot for them. The stock tanks have dried up. They're having a hard time."

Sharon Bramblett, 70, said she and her husband adopted their first llamas in 1997 and haven't been able to resist the animals ever since.

She said the llamas have been allowed into the house during previous years but never in such high numbers.

"They would always come in one or two at a time," she said. "But this is just an exceptional summer. Many more are coming in, and they're staying for hours."
