CHARLEVILLE, Australia, July 29 (UPI) -- Australian officials said they euthanized a kangaroo that knocked a 94-year-old woman to the ground and kicked her repeatedly.

The Department of Environment and Resource Management said the kangaroo was put down Wednesday, three days after it attacked Phyliss Johnson in her Charleville, Queensland, back yard, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

Veterinarians said they decided to euthanize the animal, which was pepper sprayed by responding police Sunday, after determining it was suffering and under stress.

Sky News reported Johnson's injuries include a leg wound that is likely to require surgery.
