Police in Boras issued a public appeal Wednesday for information on the Saturday abduction of a man from a parking garage after witnesses said they saw a group of several men force him into a car, the Swedish news agency TT reported Thursday.
However, investigators said they discovered the kidnapping was simply a prank to start a bachelor party.
"Of course we are terribly sorry and apologize if anyone was offended. It was never our intention," said Joakim Karlsson, one of the organizers of the party.
"I guess someone saw us and thought it looked nasty," Karlsson said. "We shouted 'lie down' and maybe there was an echo in the garage."
