Marion County sheriff's deputies said an Ocala homeowner told them his house was burglarized while he and his wife were out between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, The Ocala Star-Banner reported Thursday.
Investigators said the burglar apparently took a rotisserie chicken out of the refrigerator and fed it to the family's dog. The homeowner told deputies he had purchased the chicken the previous day and he discovered it on the living room floor when he arrived home Tuesday.
Deputies said the burglar took $13,000 worth of jewelry.
