Police: Robber wrote about crime in diary

SOUTHSEA, England, July 11 (UPI) -- Authorities in Britain say a man who denied being involved in an armed robbery was convicted after making a note of the crime in his diary.

Police said Jonathan Ochola, 21, initially denied helping Rashad Delawala steal $795 from the Ladbrokes gambling facility in Southsea, England, in June 2010, but he changed his tune when police found a diary entry from the same date reading, "Go Portsmouth robbery happens," The (Portsmouth) News reported Monday.

"When we found the diary we thought it was quite unusual. You don't normally get a good piece of evidence like that," Detective Constable Mel Sinclair said. "But he was foolish enough to put it in his diary and he said in his interview that it was stupid."

Ochala was convicted on a robbery charge in Portsmouth Crown Court. He and Delawala, who pleaded guilty to robbery, are to be sentenced this month.
