ORLANDO, Fla., July 4 (UPI) -- A Florida mother said her 7-year-old's tree climbing days are over after he was rescued from a weak branch 40 feet up by firefighters.

Sarah Simmons and husband Jacob said their son, Matthew, decided to climb the tree to get across a six-foot drainage ditch in their Orlando back yard, but he came to a halt and called for their help when he felt the branch beneath his legs begin to give, the Orlando Sentinel reported Monday.

"I just climbed up there like a bear does," Matthew Simmons said. "I usually don't get stuck when I climb trees."

Sarah Simmons said her son had "never climbed a tree that high before."

Firefighters arrived on the scene used a ladder to help the boy to the ground.

Simmons told her son once he arrived back on the ground that she doesn't "think you'll be climbing trees anymore."

However, Matthew responded with a questioning, "Sometimes?"
