NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y., June 24 (UPI) -- The New York Legislature has approved a plan for a member of the Flying Wallendas performance troupe to walk a tightrope across Niagara Falls.

Nik Wallenda, 32, said he could make his walk, which he said would be the first-ever to take place directly above the falls, as early as the coming autumn but it will likely take place next summer, the Buffalo News reported Thursday.

"I'm thrilled to death ... It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Wallenda said. "Just the nature of where I'm doing it will reach around the world."

"It's something that's been a dream of mine most of my life," he said.
