Couple wed after 28-year engagement

FAIR OAK, England, May 24 (UPI) -- A British couple said they have finally wed after a 28-year engagement plagued by work conflicts and perfectionist wedding planning.

Ivan Brown, 63, and Barbara Furlonger, 55, said they moved in together and got engaged in 1983 but the wedding was constantly put on hold due to Brown's commitments as a hospital consultant and Furlonger's work as a radiologist, the Daily Mirror reported Tuesday.

Furlonger said the wedding also took a long time to materialize because she wanted every detail to be perfectly planned, a task she did not have time for until her retirement last year.

The couple said they finally wed Friday in a ceremony in their hometown of Fair Oak, England.
