Florida man wants nude beach vote

May 21, 2011 at 3:00 AM

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., May 21 (UPI) -- A Florida nude beach proponent said he wants residents of his city to vote on the issue of creating a clothing-optional area on a portion of the city's beach.

Dave Armstrong of Delray Beach said he has been trying for eight years to convince city officials a clothing-optional beach would bring additional tourism revenue to the area and he now wants a public vote on the issue, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Friday.

Armstrong asked city commissioners about the process during Tuesday's meeting.

"You can contact Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher or our city clerk, and either one of them can tell you how to get things on the ballot," Mayor Woodie McDuffie told Armstrong. "But there will not be another election until March."

Armstrong, Palm Beach County's representative for The Naturist Action Committee, said each additional tourist brought to town by a clothing-optional beach would spend an average $300 per day at hotels, food and other city businesses.
