Man with Doomsday ad: I just drive it

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, May 20 (UPI) -- Sean Smith, the son of an Anchorage, Alaska, police officer and chaplain, says he does not believe the end-of-the-world message on his truck.

Smith works for Mobile Ad Alaska, which has rented two trucks to Family Radio, a California broadcaster that is spreading the word. Family Radio founder Howard Camping, 89, believes Armageddon is scheduled for Saturday, beginning in New Zealand at 6 p.m. local time, which would be 10 p.m. Friday in Anchorage or 6 p.m. on the East Coast.

"I just drive the truck," Smith told the Anchorage Daily News.

It turns out a lot of people in Anchorage have opinions about the end of the world and most of them disagree with Camping.

"What about the part that says, 'I will come in the night like a thief,' or whatever?" a man in a Grateful Dead T-shirt asked.

"I have no idea," Smith responded.

Smith himself believes Judgment Day will arrive -- eventually.

"If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't," he said. "I believe in things that pan out. I don't believe it's gonna happen on the 21st. Heck, I get paid on the 20th."
