TRONDHEIM, Norway, May 17 (UPI) -- A man who styled his facial hair to resemble a moose and the Norwegian flag was crowned the winner of the World Beard and Mustache Competition in Norway.

Elmar Weisser, a German hairdresser, beat 159 competitors to take home the top title from the event in Trondheim, Britain's The Sun reported Monday.

"When my beard isn't styled, it goes down to my waist. It is sort of folded up," said Weisser, who also took the top prize at the competition in 2005 and 2007.

The World Beard and Mustache Competition began in 1995 and crowns a winner every two years. It is described by organizers as the "premier event in the international sport of bearding."
