EVANSTON, Ill., May 11 (UPI) -- Northwestern University in Illinois said a human sexuality class was canceled for next year after the professor allowed a sex toy demonstration after a class.
The university said Monday Professor J. Michael Bailey's human sexuality class will not be offered in the fall following a Feb. 21 after-class lecture featuring a woman being penetrated by a motorized sex toy, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
"I learned a week or two ago that they had decided to cancel the course for next year," psychology department chair Dan McAdams said Monday. "The decision was made higher up than me at the central administration level."
McAdams said Bailey will continue to teach at the school.
Northwestern spokesman Alan Cubbage said in a written statement officials are discussing the future of a human sexuality class at the school, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
"Courses in human sexuality are offered in a variety of academic departments in other universities, and Northwestern is reviewing how such a course best fits into the university's curriculum," Cubbage said. "At Northwestern University, the dean of a college/school has the right and responsibility to determine course assignments."
