WAUPACA, Wis., May 10 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin judge told a former school bus driver who admitted sexually assaulting a child he is "gayer than a sweet-smelling jockstrap."

Judge Philip Kirk gave Delton Gorges, 71, seven years in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release, the Appleton Post-Crescent reported.

Kirk made his comments in Gorges' sentencing hearing Monday in Waupaca County, WLUK-TV in Green Bay reported. Kirk said Gorges' life, including marriage and fatherhood, was "all a lie."

"I think you were born gayer than a sweet-smelling jockstrap," Kirk said. "I think that if anyone believes that in the last 10 years or 15 years all of a sudden you developed an interest in homosexuality and young boys, then I must have looked ravishing in my prom dress this year," Kirk said.

Gorges' lawyer, Tom Johnson, said the judge has a reputation for saying what is on his mind. He suggested Kirk's "unconventional" comments were an effort to find out why Gorges did what he did.

Kirk talked about how difficult life was for gays in Wisconsin in the 1940s and 1950s when "no one knew there was a closet to come out of."
