ORLANDO, Fla., May 4 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a suspicious package delivered to a hotel and convention center turned out to be filled with miniature basketballs.

Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said workers at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando called police when no one claimed the package, which was left Tuesday morning on the hotel's loading dock, the Orlando Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Solomons said the sheriff's office was summoned to the hotel at about 3:15 p.m. and the bomb squad responded to verify the package was harmless.

The box was found to be filled with miniature promotional basketballs at about 6 p.m. The purpose of the basketballs and their intended recipient were unclear Wednesday.
