Russian bakers whip up 3-ton Easter cake

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, April 24 (UPI) -- Bakers in St. Petersburg, Russia, celebrated Easter by serving a 3-ton cake known as a kulich during celebrations in the south of the city, organizers said.

Event staff said the kulich was the world's largest, measuring 33 feet by 66 feet and weighing 3.3 tons, RIA Novosti reported.

Kulich, an important element of the Russian Easter dinner, is a glazed cake similar to the Italian panettone. It is served on the Easter table alongside colored eggs and a dish called paskha -- cottage cheese blended with candied fruits and nuts.
