CHICAGO, April 16 (UPI) -- A Chicago firefighter is being credited with saving two dogs rescued from an apartment that caught fire Friday evening.

Firefighter Tammy Rodriguez located an adult canine and a puppy on the rear porch of the apartment, administering oxygen and CPR to the pit bulls.

One of the animals was critically injured and the other was in cardiac arrest, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Rodriguez's quick action is thought to have saved both dogs.

While the adult animal was reported doing well Friday night, the puppy was being monitored at an animal hospital.

No other injuries resulted from the blaze, reported around 7 p.m.
