Toms River police said burglars targeted Police Chief Michael Mastronardy's home and four others Tuesday beginning at noon and security cameras installed at Mastronardy's home captured footage of a burglar and a passing car also believed to be involved in the crimes, the Asbury Park (N.J.) Press reported Thursday.

"We believe the burglaries are all related," Mastronardy said.

"I was only one of many victims the other day," Mastronardy said. "As a victim, I can tell you the comfort I feel being able to look at the video and see who it was who came to my house."

Investigators said the burglars took items including cash, jewelry and prescription medicines from the homes.

10 million pennies collected for park

PICAYUNE, Miss., April 15 (UPI) -- Residents of a Mississippi town collected more than 10 million pennies to raise funds to refurbish a community park, organizers of the project said.

Allen Hickman, organizer of Pennies For Your Park, said Picayune residents raised more than $100,000 for the Friendship Park project, WLOX-TV, Biloxi, Miss., reported Thursday.

"We're rebuilding a park we built in 1995. We're adding to it, we're doing some new things and refurbishing the older parts," Hickman said. "There's going to be a new tree house with a slide going out. Over on that side is going to be a splash pad where water squirts out. There are several other things, there are more wheel-chair accessible things."

Hickman said about 700 volunteers are expected to participate in Saturday's community build and a grand re-opening ceremony for the park is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday.

Man pulls up behind wife's stolen car

WINDERMERE, Fla., April 15 (UPI) -- A Florida man whose wife's car had been stolen said he was shocked to see the vehicle in front of him when he stopped at a red light.

Ben Gaskill of Windermere said he and his family returned from a weekend trip Sunday to find their home had been broken into and the culprits had taken his wife's 2005 Hyundai Sonata using the spare keys from the house, WKMG-TV, Orlando, reported Thursday.

Gaskill said he left work Monday and was on his way to a hardware store when he stopped at a red light at Good Holmes and Old Winter Garden Road and recognized a familiar flower sticker in the rear window of the vehicle in front of his.
