DES PLAINES, Ill., April 6 (UPI) -- An Illinois couple who met as election judges for the November 2008 election said they will be husband and wife when they serve as judges for the 2012 election.

Carl Lashley and Eve Parojcic said they met on Election Day in 2008 when they were both serving as judges at their Des Plaines polling place and they are planning to again serve as judges for the November 2012 election, but this time as a married couple, WBBM-AM, Chicago, reported Tuesday.

"We chatted throughout the day," Lashley said of the first time he met Parojcic. "At the end of the day, I said, 'Hey, maybe we should get together for dinner sometime.'"

He said their recent engagement is an example of bipartisan cooperation.

"President Obama said we should reach across the aisle," Lashley said. "I, being a Republican; her, being a Democrat -- we're just following our president's example."

The couple said their wedding will be Sept. 24.
