Burglary suspect decked in jewelry

FORT MYERS, Fla., April 2 (UPI) -- A shirtless suspected jewel thief was wearing between 50 and 100 necklaces when arrested, police in Florida said.

Kenneth Rejendra Tannassee was charged with burglary and grand theft Thursday, WBBH-TV in Naples reported. He was arrested not long after Ken Romano, who operates a jewelry store at the Flamingo Island Flea Market, arrived to open the business and found display cases open and items missing.

After Lee County sheriff's deputies got a call about a suspicious person and found Tannassee sitting in his vehicle wearing shorts and decked in necklaces, they summoned Romano to determine if they were his.

"He looked like a 'mini Mr. T' at about 100 pounds," Romano said.

In addition to the necklaces, police found jewelry boxes holding rings in the car as well as three marijuana cigarettes.

Romano said the burglar came in through the roof.

"He actually crawled through the rafters and snuck his way in like a little monkey," Romano said.
