NEW YORK, March 18 (UPI) -- The Upright Citizens Brigade comedy club said its bar in New York's East Village will be renamed from the Hot Chicks Room after complaints.

The improv comedy group, which recently opened the location on Avenue A, said the bar attached to its theater will be renamed after locals complained about the sign for the Hot Chicks Room, which drew comparisons to advertisements for a 1970s Times Square peep show, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

"At this time, we're more interested in presenting compelling comedic performances than fighting over a silly sign," said Alex Sidtis, managing director for The Upright Citizens Brigade.

"We want to keep our prices cheap and our venue accessible, and this 'controversy' is really a distraction from that," Sidtis said.

The Hot Chicks Room was named after a popular sketch starring troupe co-founder Amy Poehler.

Sidtis said a new name for the bar has not yet been chosen.
