DENVER, March 14 (UPI) -- Emergency responders in Denver said they helped a woman give birth Monday morning in her vehicle at the side of a road.

Lt. Phil Champagne, a Denver Fire Department spokesman, said the woman, whose name was not released, was having contractions and was being driven to the hospital by her husband when it became clear they would not make it before the birth, The Denver Post reported.

Champagne said the couple pulled over to the shoulder of eastbound 6th Avenue in their sport utility vehicle and firefighters, paramedics and police soon responded to their location.

The spokesman said the baby was born about 6:10 a.m. and the emergency responders took the mother and child, who Champagne said were doing fine following the birth, the rest of the way to the hospital. The sex of the baby was not released.
