NEW YORK, March 5 (UPI) -- The New York Police Department said it is searching for a suspect who posed as an exterminator to steal from at least five homes.

Police said Thursday the suspect, estimated to be 28 to 35 years old, was first reported burglarizing a home Jan. 2, when he approached a homeowner in Brooklyn while wearing a black uniform and said he had to fumigate the home, the New York Daily News reported Friday.

Investigators said the homeowner returned to find the man had fled with a collection of jewelry.

Police said the suspect, described as having a stocky build and a thin mustache, has struck at least four other homes using the same methods since Feb. 14.
