Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
VENICE, Italy, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Police in Italy said there will be "drastic" consequences for a group of four people who drove their car over a pedestrian-only bridge in Venice.
Venice police said the two men and two women, who are in their 20s and from nearby Jesolo, drove their vehicle over the pedestrian Constitution bridge, which was erected by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava in 2008, ANSA reported Tuesday.
Police said the foursome went for a walk and returned to their parked car to find officers waiting for them.
Investigators said three of the four people failed alcohol breath tests. The identity of the driver was unclear.
Police said "drastic" penalties will be imposed on the suspects.
Venice Mayor Giorgio Orsoni said measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
"We'll make sure episodes like that don't happen again," he said.
