TOULON, Ill., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A black tomcat who survived having an arrow shot into his head may have his name changed from "Jynx" to "Lucky", the cat's Illinois owner said.

Sadie DeWolfe, 33, of Toulon said her pet slipped from her house and was shot sometime Friday, the Peoria (Ill.) Journal Star reported.

She said she found him on her front step about three hours later –- the arrow still in his head.

DeWolfe said she took a picture of the injured cat with her phone, posted it on Facebook and got many comments from people angry about the cruelty Jynx suffered.

The arrow went through the cat's head from front to back, just barely missing his skull, said DeWolfe after she took Jynx to Wyoming Veterinary Clinic.

Jynx underwent surgery, which will leave him at risk for infection and complications, the newspaper said.

"They think he'll have a full recovery. We'll just have to watch him," said DeWolfe.

Sheriff Jimmie Dison said the perpetrator, if caught, could be charged with animal cruelty, punishable by one year in prison.

He said the person who shot Jynx also could be charged with disorderly conduct and restitution to the owner may also be ordered.
