Feb. 11, 2011 at 2:35 PM

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- The Russian art group behind a 71-yard painting of a penis on a St. Petersburg bridge is a finalist for the state-awarded Innovations prize.

The Ministry of Culture and the Center for Modern Art said the Voina guerrilla art group was nominated for the prize after painting the enormous phallus on the bridge, opposite the Federal Security Services building, in such a way that it flipped up in front of the building when the bridge was raised, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

The ministry said the winner of the Innovations prize will receive $8,500.

Two members of Voina are currently in police custody for a performance art piece protesting police corruption by flipping over squad cars.
