Old Navy nixes 'Irish' T-shirts

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. clothing chain Old Navy said T-shirts that unfairly stereotype Irish people are being pulled from the shelves and online stores.

A spokeswoman for the retailer's parent company, Gap, apologized for any offense caused by the shirts and said they will no longer be sold by the company, WCBS-TV, New York, reported Wednesday.

One of the T-shirts bears the message, "Irish I was drunk," while the other reads, "Party like you're Irish," and contains a picture of "Peanuts" character Snoopy drinking from a mug labeled "root beer."

"We recognize these T-shirts went too far and we sincerely apologize to the Irish community for any offense caused. We are removing all units from the stores and online as soon as physically possible," the spokeswoman the company based in San Francisco said.
