ELIZABETH, N.J., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- A Maryland teenager hacked into a gaming rival's Xbox account and used it to threaten violence at the other boy's New Jersey high school, investigators say.

The Maryland teen, whose name has not been released, is expected to be charged with the prank, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported. He allegedly sent a message to students at Governor Livingstone High School in Berkeley Heights, signed with the New Jersey teen's name, that said he would bring a gun to school Jan. 26.

Police were at the school that day but otherwise it was business as usual, although there was an early closing because of snow.

Investigators, with help from Microsoft, were able to trace the threatening message to a location in the Annapolis, Md., area, Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said.

"At no time were students in Berkeley Heights in any danger," Romankow said. "This appears to be a teenage prank."

The two teens had played a Madden NFL game online.
