ESLOV, Sweden, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A Swedish politician has been ordered to take Swedish language classes because his council colleagues can't understand him, officials said.

Arvid Frandsen was born in southern Jylland in Denmark and speaks in a difficult to understand dialect, The Local reported.

Council chair Christine Melinder said she has never once understood what Frandsen said when he takes the floor, and her council colleagues often use the restroom when he speaks.

A Danish interpreter brought in to help decipher his comments also had problems understanding his speech, The Local said.

It turns out the Democratic Party politician wanted to ban all languages other than Swedish from Swedish schools. His proposal included an exception for Danish.

Frandsen's dialect eventually frustrated his colleagues to the breaking point, The Local said.

"I can't understand what he says," council member Gabriel Barjosef said during a recent council meeting.

Hoping to resolve the issue, Frandsen will attend an intensive Swedish language class, The Local said.

"It feels good to be enrolled in a Swedish course," Frandsen told the local newspaper Skanska Dagbladet.
